How are the alcoholic and the sober similar?
To the alcoholic, he can choose the bottle and his beloveds. To the sober, she sees that the bottle has become his beloved.
To the alcoholic, self-indulgence is no vice. To the sober, she asks where his moderation ends and a bender begins.
The sober understands that one must choose to drink or to live. The alcoholic insists that he’s living while drunk.
The sober acknowledges the bottle’s greed. She knows it well; she fought it for her freedom. The alcoholic experiences no greed – only bliss, only pleasure.
The sober sees what the alcoholic cannot: that one day the “last call” won’t be the bar closing.
– An unspoken dialogue
That’s powerful! Nice to see you writing again!
